Things To Do With Kids In Baton Rouge When It’s Sunny.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you have kids that will demolish every room of the house. Here’s the best things to do outside with your kids in Baton Rouge! These stops will let your kids run around, explore, learn, and most importantly they don’t involve your kids removing every piece of Tupperware from the kitchen cabinets.

  • Independence Botanical Gardens

Right outside The Main Library on Goodwood Boulevard is an incredible outdoor area for kids to run around and explore. Beautiful flower gardens and walking paths throughout create a maze-like experience for young kids, letting them explore the garden with every turn. If you need a break from the heat, just pop in the library to keep exploring or cool off in the splash pad! This a regular outdoor destination in Baton Rouge for our kids.

  • The Rural Life Museum

For years I’ve driven past the Rural Life Museum on Essen Lane, I even toured it in late elementary school and had a blast, but it wasn’t till having kids that I realized what a fun and engaging place this is for kids of all ages. Toddlers and stumble around explore, while older kids can learn about our state’s past and heritage. The next time you have a day off with the kids and want to get outside, load up and go explore LSU’s Rural Life Museum in the heart of Baton Rouge.

  • Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

Hidden in the middle of Baton Rouge, BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is an escape from the city and a journey into the Bayou! Over one mile in length, the walking trail allows kids to explore Louisiana's most iconic ecosystem without ever leaving the city! With educational programs tailored to different ages, not only can children get their body moving, but they can put their mind to work too! We love bringing our kids here to walk around, play in the grass and see what creatures we kind find in the swamp!
